Let's Go Merkur Arena!
The city invites the Graz football clubs to the “Open Stadium Weekend”

This chance comes only once: on May 29th and 30th, many footballers in this city can fulfill a dream and play a match with their club in the Merkur Arena in Graz-Liebenau!

There is good news and very good news: The lawn in the Merkur Arena, which caused a lot of discussion among football fans this spring, will be completely replaced after the last competitive game of the GAK (on May 23). The work will start in the days after - but a footballing “highlight” will take place before that. From now on the footballers are allowed to train in the usual way again, so the trade fair board of directors came Barbara Muhr a very special idea: “We offer the Graz amateur football clubs the unique opportunity to play their games in the Merkur Arena. An action like this fits perfectly into the sporting year Kurt Hohensinner she found a proponent very quickly: “It is a unique opportunity for all amateur footballers. Where normally only the professionals and stars appear, the many Graz soccer clubs can play their friendly matches for two days. The stadium is open to everyone! "

Schedule for the "Open Stadium Weekend"

Important facts and regulations:

  • It will be an “open stadium weekend” for all Graz soccer clubs (women, men and youth / children).

  • The game will be played on Saturday, May 29th and Sunday, May 30th. The exact playing times are still to be determined. There are NO rental costs for the clubs (only costs for referees).

  • You can play in any weather! We no longer have to be considerate of the lawn ... 😉

  • A jury will decide which clubs get the “home right”. They can then choose their opponents for the friendly game - primarily those clubs that apply should get a chance. Of course, non-Graz clubs can also be selected as opponents. Please understand, if not all teams can play in the Merkur Arena, we expect great demand.

  • The clubs must bear the costs for the referees (and assistants) themselves.

  • Spectators are allowed: There are 25 tickets for the “home team” and 25 tickets for the “away team” per game. The clubs are also happy to sell these tickets - so that they can generate some income. A sector in the stadium is then open to spectators, there are NO assigned seats - all clubs are requested to comply with and control the relevant Covid regulations. The clubs will then receive detailed information after the allocated kick-off time.

  • The changing rooms are available in the stadium and can be entered one hour before the start of the game - the teams must leave the dressing room and the stadium immediately after the end of the game in order to avoid any gathering of people.

  • There is no canteen in or in front of the stadium!

  • To ask? Please send an email to [email protected]

You have to do that for this or you have to meet these requirements:

  • Your club must be registered with the Styrian Football Association and for the championship or be a member of the Hobby Football League (HFL). Graz clubs are prioritized.

  • At least 15 people from your association must register as ambassadors for our “Mission 2021”: www.letsgograz.at/mission2021. Please make sure to state the club name when filling in!

  • Your club or a club representative must post about our campaign on Facebook or Instagram by May 24th. Please use the hashtag #letsgograz and mark the Sports city Graz in the posting (Instagram: @sportstadtgraz).

  • This is how you can apply for a game: Send us a funny, creative photo of your team or players who want to play in the Merkur Arena [email protected] and also tell us a reason why you want to play the match. We need the following data from you:

    • Club name
    • Association affiliation and league affiliation
    • Which team should play (combat team, youngsters, ...)
    • Contact person of the association (name, function, phone number and email)
  • The deadline for entries is Monday, May 24th, 12 noon.
