June: Search for the best penalty shooters of the sporting year 2021, a bouldering challenge and the international sports medicine congress

In a few days the time will come - King Football will take up his scepter again! The EURO 2020, which is called that despite the current year, also takes the Graz sporting year 2021 into account. And, apart from the club projects and the Graz City Cup, which is already running, calls for a very special penalty challenge. Other highlights include qualifying for the international Boulder-Bloc Summer Masters as well as the Sports medicine congress SPORTMED Graz 21 in the old university and in the Raiffeisen sport park.

The corona guidelines have been relaxed for a good three weeks, and sport can also be practiced again with partners or in groups, taking numerous precautionary measures into account. And major events are also possible again. Sports Councilor Kurt Hohensinner: "The Austria Finals, which were held for the first time last week with over 3.000 athletes, were a complete success. We are already looking forward to the new edition in the coming year - this year, due to the pandemic, there was only a foretaste of what was going on at this mini Olympia is possible. In addition to the top sport decisions, we can also focus much more on social interaction next year. With hands-on stations, a supporting program, etc., the Sport Austria Finals on Corpus Christi 2022 will be a sports festival for everyone! "

Hohensinner also points out the importance of sport for public health: “The sporting year has finally started in full and can develop as we planned. We want to get even more people excited about sport and exercise. Not for an end in itself, but because it is simply a question of health. The Swedes, for example, do not live longer than we Austrians, but on average they have almost 15 healthy years more. An essential key to this is that in Sweden physical activity as a preventive measure has been widely promoted and demanded for everyone for 30 years. 'Let's Go Graz' is also carried by this spirit. There is now the possibility of doing sports in every corner of this city. This month alone we have around 90 events in the sports year calendar. ”All dates are given www.letsgograz.at.

International Block Summer Masters

One of the highlights of June is the qualification for the International Bloc Summer Masters, organized by the Bloc House bouldering club in close cooperation with the three other Graz bouldering and climbing halls (Boulder Club, Newton, City Adventure Center) and the Leoben Boulder Point. State champion Johanna Färber from ÖAV Graz: “In this public competition in six youth and two general classes, a session with 30 boulderers awaits in each of the five halls, so a total of 150 boulderers. The aim is to climb as many as possible by July 11th, fair play applies, only tops count up to the specified date. The top 3 of the respective rating class qualify for the semifinals of the Bloc Summer Masters on August 14th on Mariahilferplatz, the winners of the youth classes go straight to the finals on Mariahilferplatz on August 13th and 14th!

On the days before, on Wednesday, August 11th and Thursday, August 12th, just one week after the first Olympic medals in climbing sport have been awarded, the Austrian elite will compete at the Bergfuchs Bloc Summer on Mariahilferplatz for the state championship in bouldering.

Active Fridays in the CITYPARK and in three days on the main square

As an “appetizer” for these two events mentioned, the Active Friday in the CITYPARK on June 25th will be dedicated to bouldering. Center manager Waldemar Zelinka: “The CITYPARK has been part of Graz for 50 years. And not just as a trading location, but in a very broad term in which the support of important city activities - such as the sports year - always finds its place. On the other hand, the CITYPARK, as it were a public place with the appropriate infrastructure and space, always offers an opportunity to draw attention to a wide variety of activities while 'passing'. In addition, in this way we want customers and
Encourage employees to take part in sporting activities. Bouldering is a spectacular sport, the CITYPARK is a spectacular shopping center. It just fits together. "

The first Active Friday will take place in front of the town hall on Friday, June 11th. Everyone can try out Quidditch, the classy full-contact sport from the Harry Potter universe. With moves from handball, rugby, volleyball and also dodgeball, Quidditch combines several sports into a mature and tactically demanding competition combination.

The sports year is looking for the Graz penalty king and penalty queen

On Friday, June 25th, the penalty kings will be determined in six categories (children I and children II, youth, women, men and fans) on the grounds of the Styrian Football Association. The procedure is simple: All participants complete one round, i.e. one shot, only those who hit advance to the next round. Penalties are taken until a winner has been determined in each category.

The winners in the six categories each win a soccer training session for their own club or for their favorite soccer club to which they want to give this unit as a gift. It's about training with prominent Styrian supervisors: Sturm-Coach Christian ilzer, Hartberg trainer Markus Schop, U-21 team boss Werner Gregoritsch, Storm ladies trainer Christian Lang and Gernot Plassnegger, the coach of the GAK.

The sixth person to win a training session is an ex-England professional kicker and TV expert Johnny Ertl. “I really enjoy being there! Because everyone has the chance to put themselves in the situation that you have to meet. Regardless of whether 500 million people are watching on TV and 100.000 are watching in the stadium or just those who, as in this case, match you for victory - the thrill is always the same. And since you're competing for your club, the tension is even greater. When David de Gea missed out against Villareal this year, Manchester United's Europa League title was gone. If you miss, the unique chance for an unforgettable training session is gone. "
